Morning Enrichment Programs
You and Me
Age 7-14 (Seth Mansur and Glynis Bylin)
We will get to know one another this week through fun games and activities that require us to communicate with one another and to trust each other. We will work in pairs and larger groups, all ages combining in different combinations, while we learn skills that encourage us to be inclusive with each other and teach us how to resolve conflicts.
Wind, Earth, Fire and Water Integrated science program
Age 9-14 (Seth Mansur)
This young scientist program consists of hands-on, experiment driven projects in environmental sciences, kitchen chemistry, and garden-based botany that offers children an opportunity to “dig†deeper into their world and enrich the way that they look at it. Join us to explore the different themes (earth, water, wind and fire) this summer in our schoolyard garden and science laboratories to explore topics such as: Why does bread rise? What makes plants green? How do clouds form?
Wind, Earth, Fire and Water Integrated science program
Age 5-8 (Glynis Bylin)
Wind, Earth, Fire and Water are each a vital part of the wonderful world in which we live. Over the next four weeks, we will explore, experiment and play with each of them, being creative and getting our hands dirty while we take a closer look at what they are and how they affect our lives. We will build kites, dig into the earth and study the movement of the sun by making a human sundial. We will get very wet while we construct sailboats out of recycled materials and sail them in the “Eyes Wide Regattaâ€. Each of us will come away with a smile on our face, memories to treasure and share, and a greater awareness of the earth and how to protect it.
Theater: Writers’ Table to Actors’ Stage
Full 5 week sign up only
Age 7-14 (Kassie Snowdon)
Begin the summer by writing an original story; end the summer performing your own play! We will create our story by pulling ideas from favorite stories, books, plays, and songs. Let’s explore aspects of story writing, including that which makes a good story, and how characters relate to one another. When we begin show production, everyone will have opportunities to learn about different theater and acting techniques, set building, and costume design and creation. All the while, we will be using recycled materials in our production, in keeping with the program theme of our impact on the earth. It takes many different talents to produce a show. In this program, you can be involved in every part of the creation from start to finish; show your strengths and try new things. The summer will culminate in the performance of our production for family and friends.

Afternoon Enrichment Programs
Music of All Kinds and Private Lessons
All ages (Kassie Snowdon)
Whether you are experienced in practicing music or not, this program has something for all sorts of music enthusiasts. It will allow musicians and fans of music to explore any aspect of music making that they find intriguing. For musicians, the set up is meant to be less formal than traditional lessons, which would allow each participant to choose literature and styles to pursue. This is a great opportunity for young musicians to practice styles not usually found in school, or further skills already being practiced. The workshops offered are: private lessons, group lessons (of like instruments), small ensembles, rock bands, and jazz bands. Each group will also spend time listening to recordings of seasoned musicians to find influences, learn about music history, and hear sounds to emulate. For those who would like a first chance at making music or just a chance to learn more about it whether a musician or music lover, there is a Music Appreciation section of the program. This will include chances to learn about the thought process behind music making, to play simple but exciting music in drum circles, to play music games, and to listen to various styles of music. The program will end with an opportunity for participants in any part of the program to perform their music if they wish.
A last note on which instruments are offered for private lessons: Any standard orchestra (strings are my specialty) or band instrument, and beginning level piano. In groups/bands, any instrument that you bring.
Fit & Fun Games
All ages (Seth Mansur)
Running, jumping, smiling and cavorting, children will participate in a non-threatening environment of activity and movement designed to initiate physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth. They will have the opportunity to explore and learn at their own self-dictated pace. Age appropriate activities are planned and designed to include elements of play, fun, critical thinking, and fitness in an environment geared towards enhancing the student’s personal success through group involvement.
Artist’s Studio
All ages (Glynis Bylin)
If art is your passion, then join us for an afternoon or more. Construct your own portfolio to carry your wonderful works of art. You will learn the proportions of the face and sketch your partner’s portrait. Become more aware of light and shadow, and experiment with shading in different media to build the illusion of a 3-D image on a 2-D surface. Discover the secrets of depth and enjoy the fresh outdoor air while painting a landscape.
Beads and Baubles
All ages (Glynis Bylin)
Make your own jewelry by creating beads made from colorful magazine pages. Use a classic chain folding technique to turn a recycled snack bag into a stylish bracelet and then, turn a pair of used juice pouches into a fashionable coin purse.
Crazy Collage
All ages (Glynis Bylin)
Bring photographs of you and your loved ones and other interesting things that represent who you are, and together we will use unusual techniques and materials to create an artistic collage for you to take home.
Dramatic Dance
All ages (Glynis Bylin)
Try a little ballet; the polka and the waltz; traditional and contemporary dances. Let’s play ‘dancing musical chairs’. How about dressing up and telling a story by moving your body to music? Work together with a small group and choreograph a unique dance to your own choice of music.
Silent Movies
All ages (Glynis Bylin)
We will explore the world of mime, silent communication and American Sign Language, by studying new words each day and recalling the ones we learned the day before. We will use gesturing, play memory games and charades, and perform together in improvisational silent skits. We will learn that communication is so much more than just the words we speak.
